My Servant Song
Growing up in a “traditional” Baptist church I have heard
many, many, many hymns in my life. I would have to say that my absolute
favorite is # 613. The Servant song speaks to me and it somehow finds a way
into my head and I will catch myself singing it quite often.
The Servant Song
Sister, let me be your servant.
Let me be as Christ to you.
Pray that I might have the grace
To let you be my servant, too.
We are pilgrims on a journey.
We are brothers on the road.
We are here to help each other
Walk the mile and bear the load.
I will hold the Christ-light for you
In the night time of your fear.
I will hold my hand out to you;
Speak the peace you long to hear.
I will weep when you are weeping.
When you laugh, I'll laugh with you.
I will share your joy and sorrow
Till we've seen this journey through.
When we sing to God in heaven,
We shall find such harmony
Born of all we've known together
Of Christ's love and agony.
I believe that these are some pretty powerful lyrics. As brothers and sisters in Christ we should have an extraordinary bond. We should have such a deep and powerful love for one another. So strong that the other believers will know that through good times and bad that they have others there for them. I want all of my brothers and sisters to know that they have someone to not only to lean on, to weep with, to rejoice with, but someone who will always be there, ready to help lighten their load in whatever way the Lord leads me to.
Sisters, join me in finding true peace in being each others servants.
